Suitability of technological solutions for the HVDC connection Beričevo-Divača-Salgareda (1000 MW HVDC project between Slovenian and Italy)

Within the relevant documents containing planning processes for the development of Slovenian power system, an installation of a high-voltage direct-current transmission application between Slovenian and Italian power systems is foreseen. This is why a decision for constructing a dynamic model of such transmission system has been made, suitable for stability-study purposes. This covers both commercially available technologies. With respect to the power-system model, a combination of continental European interconnection dynamic study model and the Slovenian power-system model has been used in order to generate most commonly appearing east-west and north-south inter-area oscillations with almost zero damping. In continuation, we analysed the possibilities for improving the damping by each individual technology. Both models proved to be suitable and very useful, which will surely represent a major factor in the future analyses of dynamic properties of the European interconnection.
Transmission-system level voltage-control optimization in the Slovenian power system, selection of most suitable technology and its scale
Client: ELES, d.o.o.
Note: in cooperation with EIMV
During the planning process of possible future investments into the Slovenian power system, a need arose for the comprehensive analysis related to low-frequency inter-area oscillation damping of a static var compensator (SVC) device. The SVC device was initially considered for solving local steady-state voltage issues on highest 220 kV and 400 kV voltage levels in the region. As the SVC device features fast dynamic response, it seemed reasonable to verify whether its implementation benefits the operation of the entire ENTSO-E interconnection as well. The presented analysis was performed using a complex model for dynamic studies, comprising publicly available ENTSO-E model and internally constructed Slovenian power-system model, which was successfully tested and verified in the past.
Organizational support for PAC World international conference
Client: PAC World
Hosting and providing local support for the organization of the 7th international PAC World conference. There was a large participation of power-system protection, automation and control experts from 29 countries worldwide. Following the well-established tradition, an exhibition area was set up in the faculty lobby, enabling many well-known companies to present their latest technological achievements and products.
