Projects 2007

2007-2Construction of the model of Iranian transmission network in computer program SINCAL and construction of procedures for control of input data

Client: Siemens, Germany

In the scope of Siemens’ project of analysis of Iranian transmission network we constructed a large model of this network for power-flow calculations. In such a large network a special challenge is the control of input data that due to the large amount of these data cannot be controlled manually, consequently we prepared a computer interface that checks (and repairs – if possible ) the data according to the set of typical, minimum and maximum values. In order to make a clear presentation of the whole network we created also simplified schemes of the network in computer software VISIO and construct an automated transfer of data from SINCAL to VISIO.

2007-7Stationary and dynamic analysis of Slovenian electric-power system at installation of pump-storage plant Avče

Client: ELEK, d.o.o.

Pump-storage plant (PSP) Avče is the first Slovenian pump storage plant and one of the first in the world with doubly-fed machine (DFM) installed. This kind of machines does not have properly constructed models in the computer software for dynamic analyses yet, so the first part of the project was modeling of DFM. Then we analyze stationary properties and dynamic behavior of the network. A special property of PSP Avče is a connection to a 110 kV network that is relatively weak connected to the other part of Slovenian network, consequently additional restrictions in operation of PSP Avče should be considered, especially after the complication with the reconstruction of overhead line in Renče. 2007-6

2007- Dynamic analysis of Slovenian electric-power system at installation of pump-storage plant Kozjak

Client: ELES, d.d.

In Slovenian electric-power system (EPS) the second pump-storage plant (PSP) is proposed, i.e., PSP Kozjak. Because PSPs are usually relatively big units, the expertise of their dynamic behavior is very important. In the first stage of the project we constructed a model of doubly-fed machine (DFIG) that will be installed in PSP Kozjak. This model was included in Slovenian EPS, which enabled proper analyses of dynamic phenomenon.

2007-10Stationary analyses of self-consumption of Thermal power plant Šoštanj as the base for a setting of parameters of protection system

Client: ELEK d.o.o.

Self-consumption of facility like thermal power-plant (TPP) Šoštanj can be considered as a consumer with special requirement for reliability of electric-power supply. Consequences of outages of a certain consumers might be correlated with high costs. Consequently in the first stage it is reasonable to perform a stationary analyses and then to revise parameters of over-current protection to achieve the selectivity in all operating states.

2007-11Results of analyses of the first stage () are the base that according to standards enables proper dimensioning of elements of electric-power system (EPS) and setting of parameters of overcurrent protection.

In the second stage current settings of overcurrent protection are analyzed and possible changes in settings are proposed in order to achieve coordination between individual protection devices.

Majority of results are given in graphical form that enables clear view on the situation and enables rapid fault finding.

2007-13Slovenian power system operation during natural and other disasters

Client: Ministry of defence of Republic of Slovenia

One of many tasks of Ministry of defence is to foreseen all kinds of unwanted/unplanned interventions to the national security and prepare suitable emergency plans. The goal of the project was to analyse the operational security of Slovenian power system, determine the level of its vulnerability to natural and several other disasters, indicate critical part of the infrastructure whose malfunction might cause partial or even total blackout. A list of potential geographical areas was provided that might become a subject to island operation. As a transition into an island operation is problematic mainly due to frequency stability issues, a detailed analysis of current underfrequency load shedding protection parameterization is performed.
