Dynamic analysis of TA2 unit impacts on neighbouring generation facilities – part 1 (first swing and small signal stability)
Client: Energetika Ljubljana, d.o.o. (unit TE-TOL)
During the refurbishment of the second cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP) unit in Termoelektrarna Toplarna Ljubljana (unit abbreviation TA2) the Slovenian transmission system operator (TSO) ELES requested certain dynamic analysis that would confirm the suitability of TA2 unit operation during contingencies. The performed dynamic analyses encompassed first swing stability, small signal stability (system oscillations) and verification of compliance with Fault Ride Through (FRT) characteristic, defined in the corresponding transmission system grid code.
Contingency screening and ranking framework
Client: Siemens AG, Erlangen, Germany
With the development and implementation of WAMS in several power systems around the world, the ideas of online dynamic stability assessment after different contingencies emerged. However, due to large network size and large number of possible scenarios it is hardly possible to verify system dynamic responses via using simulation tools for all possible events. This is why our task was to develop a methodology for fast contingency screening that would enable their classification according to expected impact on system stability. By doing so the set of possible simulation scenarios is narrowed and the request for online stability assessment is maintained.
